Northamptonshire VIXINS end of season awards 2006
Shah Miah has been named Northants VIXINS player of the year for 2006. The former Leeds star in his first season with the club took 13 wickets and scored more than 250 runs, including a century and 2 fifties. He also contributed some impressive fielding performances in helping the team to their first title. He also won bowler of the year in a season during which he claimed the club's first 5 wicket haul in a game against Birmingham with 5-37.
Ian Goodearl comfortably retained his batsman of the year trophy after winning it in 2005, finishing a reasonable distance clear of second placed Alastair Provan. Ian also won Individual performance of the year for his brilliant 33 over score of 97 away at Birmingham which held the innings together. He fought off a strong challenge from Tom Willis in this category whose share in a 78-run partnership against Worcester on his debut aged just 14 left him just one vote behind Ian in this category. The pair dominated with nobody else getting more than 1 vote.
Alastair Provan won Champagne Moment for hitting 5 boundaries in a single over to win the home game against Eastern Vipers. The vote in this category was incredibly close with just 4 votes between first and last.
Elliot Stonhill pulled off the biggest surprise of the night and was very shocked to retain his low sighted player of the year award, beating David Gavrilovic by a single vote.
John Wood was awarded Oustanding contribution to the club on the day he quit as treasurer to take up a less busy role on the club's committee.
The final two awards went to a pair of new players who have both worked very hard this year. 14 year old Tom Willis won most improved player with 15 year old Mahomed Khatri claiming Young player of the year in two hard fought votes.
