Match Report, Warwickshire Bears V Northamptonshire VI.XI.NS Saturday 26th April 2008

Warwickshire were without Luke Sugg and Gav Griffiths were as Northants had most of their key players in attendance but it was still 9 players against 8 in favour of the home side.

Warwickshire won the toss and asked Northants to bat and were quickly rewarded as Alan Humphries took a brilliant low catch to dismiss Ian Goodearl for 5 off Warren Lee's bowling in just the second over.

David Gavrilovic and Brad Fisher then attempted to build a score but both found scoring very difficult. Gavrilovic was eventually out at the end of the 11th over for 0 after a truly low quality innings after Nathan Foy held a low no bounce catch from the bowling of Alan Humphries. Alastair Provan scored a rapid 10 before Mark Provan (first ball) and Elliot Stonhill both fell for ducks. Mark Horbatowski joined Brad Fisher at the wicket and eventually in the 21st over Fisher was finally dismissed for 13. Dave Keeling became Andy Powers fourth victim and Nathan Foy's third catch to bring the innings to a close leaving Horbatowski 10 not out. Aiden Reilly took two catches with Andy Powers finishing off with 4-26.

Warwickshire openers Andy Powers and Nathan Foy set about their task briskly. Powers gave an easy chance to be caught with the score around 40 but the chance fell to low partial Elliot Stonhill, the only player on the pitch who couldn't have caught it. Nathan Foy some how reached 36 at a struggle on a pitch which was a nightmare for two bounce batting before Mark Horbatowski took his first ever catch to hand Northants captain David Gavrilovic the wicket of his opposite number. Andy Powers quickly knocked off the six remaining runs needed to finish 35 not out and leave Aiden Reilly at the other end not facing a ball.

So defending champions Warwickshire get their season off to a flying start with Northants left with crucial games against London and Sussex to try and earn a top four finish.
