Northamptonshire VIXINS were founded in 2002 by John Wood and Anne Bentley from Northamptonshire Association for the Blind. They started the club, although it had a very small squad, far too small to consider playing competitively at the time. Mike Clifton also played a large part in developing the club having been very active as a coach from the birth of the VIXINS.
Some of the current players who were in that initial squad included Tony White and Alwyn Drage. The club's original committee was made up of John, Anne, Eric Grewcock and Harvey Kaufman. This committee was instrumental in helping the club become what it is today.
During the early years, the club's small squad of players played in friendlies with sighted teams, practiced with each other and attended the Birmingham tournament with some players joining with Eastern Vipers for the day.
The club moved a step closer to joining the league when in 2003 former Worcester captain David Gavrilovic and vice captain Elliot Stonhill joined the club and were able to bring a number of former Worcester players with them.
IPart of the development towards league status came in 2004 as the club played a mixed teams friendly with Oundell public school And also staged a cricket demonstration at a have a go day in Milton Keynes. These public events were happing more frequently and with more interest from players.
In September 2004 the club decided to enter the BBS National League and BBS Primary Club National Knockout Cup in 2005 and were represented for the first time at the BBS Cricket AGM. The club were given a boost as a result as in early 2005 9 new players joined the club before the end of April. This gave more of a depth to the squad and after numerous practices the club were ready to start playing.
Despite a heavy defeat to Warwickshire in the first round of the cup the players were not phased and went on to earn a draw away to eventual league champions Eastern Vipers, a draw away at Worcester and the clubs first ever victory at home to Worcester in their first three league games. What's more signs were shown that the clubs young squad had a lot of promise and also had a star batsman in Ian Goodearl.
The first season also saw the team finish second in the Warwickshire tournament after thrashing division One side London Sports by 9 wickets. Dissapointingly the rest of the season never lived up to the early promise and despite giving Warwickshire a scare in the home league game before falling to a 6 wicket defeat.
The club finished second out of five teams in National League division Two and finished the season with high hopes for 2006.
