On a hot and sunny day at Obelisk Cricket Club in Northampton, the VI.XI.NS won the toss and sent Warwickshire in to bat on a sub-standard pitch which caused a lot of extras.
The home team's plan of early wickets worked at first as Paul Powers was bowled for 4 from Dave Keeling's first delivery. His dismissal brought together England pair Andy Powers and Nathan Foy and the duo took control of the match. They put on 155 for the second wicket at a brutal pace with some great placement and power hitting. Both played almost completely chanceless innings and both were dismissed within an over of each other. First Foy became Dave Keeling's second victim caught by Ian Goodearl behind the stumps before a piece of sharp ground fielding saw Jagdisch Pata run out Powers just 16 runs short of his century.
Luke Sugg then played a sparkling innings to live up to the level set by his two England team-mates and was ably supported by the ever concistant Gavin Griffiths.
Sugg was eventually caught by Shah Miah off Alastair Provan before Nick Killen dismissed debutant Aiden Reily with help from another catch from Ian Goodearl. However, an almost perfect batting performance from the Bears left them 369/3 after their 30 overs.
Northants changed around their batting order and told players to hit out in an attempt to try and reach the mammoth target they had been set.
It started well as VI.XI.NS reached 12/0 after the first over but that was as good as it got. Nick Killen was bowled by Andy Powers before Shah Miah was caught on the boundary. A stream of wickets then followed including Ian Goodearl and Tom Willis dismissed in successive balls by Sugg. Northants did manage some resistance with a terrific effort from Mark Provan. Andy Briant claimed his first wicket for Warwickshire dismissing Elliot Stonhill caught behind. Jagdisch Pata then played an eventful innings that saw his first ball go for a massive six, his second for four and his third was caught on the boundary. Luke Sugg returned to remove Mark Provan for 17 and finish off with bowling figures of 6-17 in a sublime performance.
Warwickshire now go on to face Metro in the semi finals with Northants left to concentrate on their BBS league title defence.
